The theme of CommHIT 24 is “Forging Formidable Resilience.” Keynote speaker Kathy Ireland, entrepreneur of global business brand Kathy Ireland Worldwide, will impart valuable and surprising insights on corporate resilience.
CommHIT’s mission is to increase community health, develop workforce, and improve lives by planning and operationalizing complex programs that involve combinations of community, health, and technology in areas that are rural, underserved, or otherwise remote. Among the conference speakers is Melissa Byers, Business Liaison and Apprenticeship Navigator for CSBFV, who will present on workforce needs and resiliency in the tri-county region through establishing regional partnerships.
“Developing partnerships has resulted in a robust network, creating pathways to registered apprenticeships,” says Byers. Working with Anne Everly, Apprenticeship Training Representative with the State of Florida, the duo has created the first registered apprenticeship with the healthcare sector in Brevard, and the first in the nation/state for Surface Mount Technician (SMT) Operators. Byers and the CSBFV business team also solve workforce challenges facing construction and hospitality employers in Brevard.
Founded in 2008, CommHIT has overcome challenges in healthcare for under-resourced and isolated communities, developing the first rural-based health information exchange to share patient information, creating an innovative transportation model to provide treatment to rural residents during COVID, organizing a mobile integrated health program to reduce maternal and infant deaths and emergencies involving older Americans, and addressing workforce shortages disproportionally affecting rural EMS agencies and nursing, among other accomplishments. Working with organizations and communities to help them become internally sustainable, CommHIT expects workforce development and tech-related training to remain centerpieces of its work.
“We know a strong, well-trained workforce is critical to helping a community be more resilient to unexpected conditions like COVID, cyber-attacks, weather disasters, corporate mergers, among other things,” says Byers. “CommHIT leaders believe that if we can anticipate, prepare for, respond to and adapt incremental change, we’re better able to help businesses and communities thrive in the long term.”
CommHIT urges leaders in all business sectors to attend this important event. Other co-hosts include the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, the Astronauts Memorial Foundation, and Kids in Positive Places.
