Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce “Crest of the Wave” Podcast Interviews Marci Murphy
Just weeks into the consolidation of CareerSource Brevard and CareerSource Flagler Volusia, the newly named CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia (CSBFV) is hitting the ground running, reaching out to job seekers and business leaders across the region, spreading the word about an expanded regional focus and service vision. Part of the Reimagining Education and Career Help (REACH) Act established in 2021, the agency is poised to widen the scope of employment services and training programs that answer the needs of an ever-changing workforce.
Recently, Ken Phelps, Vice President of Resource Development for the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, invited Marci Murphy, Executive Director for CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia, to be a guest on the Daytona Regional Chamber’s podcast, Crest of the Wave. The podcast episode focused on the merger, what it means for jobseekers and businesses in the region, and how the agency plans to address workforce needs now and in the future.
“Now that the first step of consolidation is behind us, we’re focused on the depth and breadth of this new workforce board to better manage and standardize statewide systems,” says Marci Murphy. “We’ve also looked at the similarities, differences and needs in each county and devised a strategy capitalizing on regional collaboration and partnerships to better support the business community, strengthen emerging industries and cater to the unique needs of a diverse body of jobseekers. It is my hope that we get to a place where businesses, chamber and community organizations collaborate across county lines.”
Phelps elaborated on their excitement for CSBFV to put new programs in motion across the region stating, “This is something we really try to emphasize with our members, to see the benefit in collaboration, even with a fellow company in the same sector.” Phelps added that they look forward to collaborating on initiatives that advance the CSBFV region, building a strong workforce for the business community.”
Murphy shared how collaboration with business and agency partners is key to growth, maximizing resources to deliver more integrated, specialized services. This includes education and training programs, industry roundtables, support for growing industries such as transportation, logistics, scientific and technical companies, researching and supporting workforce trends and changes, (such as how AI is affecting companies or dealing with an aging workforce), and boosting collaboration among economic, education, business and government agencies. Additionally using research and reporting tools available through CSBFV that provide important workforce industry and trend information will help businesses with data-based decision making.
Creating specialized partnerships also addresses high-need employment sectors, as in the valuable partnership CSBFV has established with Dwyer Workforce Development – specializing in healthcare education, training and employment. “With such a shortage in the nursing industry, we are fortunate to have a partnership such as this that makes a huge impact in our immediate community,” says Marci. “The top skill that’s needed in all three regions is the same – nursing. This is why this partnership is so valuable to our region.”
“It’s exciting to see we have people focused on the future,” added Phelps. “There’s a lot coming down the pike, with new industries emerging and the opportunity of collaboration.”
CSBFV looks forward to a continued partnership with the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce and appreciate being invited to discuss new opportunities in the region. We can give businesses and jobseekers alike a host of tools, learning and training platforms, and personalized services to meet their workforce needs.
