Career Counseling

As with any planning process, information is a key building block.  You may want to start with the links provided on this page or go to the RESOURCES section of this website.

Choosing the right career can be a job in itself.  We would like to make this aspect of your transition into new employment a little simpler.

CareerSource Brevard promotes the notion of life-long learning and long-term career planning offering one-on-one assistance to help you move into training, college, apprenticeships or other options that may be right for you.

Before that can happen, there is a need to assess skills, desires and motivations.

Manufacturing is for Women Too

“One of the best moves I’ve ever made. I get up every morning wanting to come to work, for the first time in 20 years. I’d never go back to any of my other careers.”

—Tanya McCaully

Most job seekers are interested in climbing a career ladder to achieve higher earnings, yet few take the time to develop a plan for how to achieve this.  Developing such a plan is a skill in itself.  Our experts can help.

Several information sources are listed below.  For more information on demand occupations, career exploration and assessment tools, go to RESOURCES.

Occupational Outlook Handbook – this is provided by the federal government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics as a career guidance publication.  The handbook provides descriptive information on occupations including job functions, earnings, training and educational requirements as well as predictions concerning the future demand for occupations.

America’s Career InfoNet – this organization is part of the America’s Job Bank system and provides occupational information, geographic profiles of occupations, employment trends, and research on employment information such as wages and growth to assist in the development of your own career plan.

O’Net Career Exploration Tools – here you will find career exploration tools designed to help career seekers consider and plan their choices more effectively.  The website includes tools to help individuals prepare a career plan based on three fundamental elements of career choice -work-related interests, values and abilities.  The assessment results link to more than 900 occupations described by the O’NET database.

Florida e-Choices – an online career exploration and information system providing users with tools to examine interests, values and transferable skills, and to compare the results of these assessments with occupation information.  This site also includes tools to personalize your career plan and save the results for use during future visits.

mySkills myFuture – helps laid-off workers and other career changers find new occupations to explore.  Users can identify occupations that require skills and knowledge similar to their current or previous job, learn more about these suggested matches, locate local training programs, and/or apply for jobs.

My Next MoveMy Next Move uses data and resources from the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) system to provide current information on the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform work for all occupations in the United States.  My Next Move also offers an abbreviated version of the O*NET Interest Profiler assessment and other occupational search tools to assist individuals who are new to the workforce system find career and training information in one convenient location.
