The reduction in the number of local workforce development boards was a required by the REACH Act. Its implementation, known as the Florida Workforce System Transformation Plan, joins interconnected counties to reduce administrative redundancies and maintain or improve economic development alignment to drive regional growth. The process engaged more than 700 stakeholders as part of a comprehensive analysis of the current system The plan was approved by the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors following more than 10 months of collaboration by CareerSource Florida, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Reimagining Education and Career Help (REACH) Office, and the Department of Education, as well as contracted services through Ernst & Young (EY). The process included analyzed data from all 24 local workforce boards and the state of Florida. The boundaries of the local workforce development boards across Florida were last updated more than 25 years ago.
The merged entity will continue to administer The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Welfare Transition programs across the newly defined region, as well as administer grants and other employment support programs and actions. The full range of services offered to jobseekers and employers will continue.
As all good leaders do, the Executive Team will look for ways to enhance the performance of the organization, identifying the best practices between the two merged regions, working to improve program efficiencies and effectiveness to ultimately help businesses and individuals and drive regional growth.
On July 1, 2024, Marci Murphy, CareerSource Brevard’s current president, will become the Executive Director of CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia uniting three counties whose workforce needs were formerly supported by Career Source Brevard and CareerSource Flagler/Volusia. Ms. Murphy has a tremendous track record with CareerSource Brevard bringing the leadership skills and experience required for this transition and beyond.
