AEROSPACE NATIONAL EMERGENCY GRANT EXTENDED UNTIL JUNE 14, 2014

TO FULLY BENEFIT, JOB SEEKERS MUST ENGAGE WITH BREVARD WORKFORCE BY DECEMBER 2013.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA-Brevard Workforce, the area authority on workforce development, was granted a final extension for the Aerospace National Emergency Grant(NEG) that began in 2010 and will expire on June 14, 2014.

The $15 million NEG, was created to provide career transition services and support to aerospace workers affected by the shuttle retirement. To date, more than 2,775 former aerospace workers have taken advantage of these services with more than 1,450 scholarships awarded to assist in training.

“Giving Aerospace workers more time to take advantage of these free services is great news for Brevard Workforce and our community,” stated Lisa Rice, president of Brevard Workforce. “However, there are more workers to reach with these valuable career services and Brevard Workforce is working hard to encourage their participation.”

Research has shown that it takes 6-8 months to fully benefit from grant funded assistance like on-the-job training and can take even longer to secure new employment.  With less than one year remaining before the NEG ends, all eligible job seekers are strongly encouraged to contact Brevard Workforce immediately in order to take advantage of the personalized career services available. Services include: résumé support, workshops, career planning, skills re-training, on-the-job training opportunities, entrepreneurial support and so much more.

“The reality is Brevard Workforce will not be able to provide the same personalized service and assistance options after June 2014, ” added Rice.  “This may be the last chance many people will have to receive this level of career support.”
