BREVARD WORKFORCE HOSTS CAREER EVENTS UNDER THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY GRANT

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA- Brevard Workforce, the area authority on workforce development, hosted an open house on October 10 and 16, inviting those eligible to receive assistance through the National Emergency Grant (NEG). These events included valuable insights from local employers and aerospace peers who have benefited from the Brevard Workforce NEG program.

There were more than fifty people in attendance for the events, which focused on encouraging participants to “Jumpstart” their career through the help of Brevard Workforce. In addition to learning about the services available through the workforce agency, guests heard from local industry leaders including:  Jim Gray of Avatar Technologies, Lloyd Gregg of ASRC Aerospace Corporation and Marcel Pope, Entrepreneur and Financial Consultant.

There are eight months remaining for eligible job seekers to benefit from the services offered through the National Emergency Grant.  Skills assessment, résumé support, workshops, educational resources, career planning, training and support resources are among the many services available.

The NEG program was created for aerospace workers who were affected by the shuttle retirement to transition into a new career. To date, more than 2,000 workers have taken advantage of services through the National Emergency Grant and more than 1,100 have received grant-related training and supportive services, including skills training, scholarships, certifications and licensures.

“We have NEG money to provide free services and resources for this targeted group until June 2013,” stated Lisa Rice, president of Brevard Workforce. “We implore the community to share this news with those they suspect are affected by the shuttle’s retirement-even if they are receiving unemployment benefits or severance pay, they may very well be qualified for assistance now.”

Brevard Workforce is planning to host similar events, but those interested should engage now to beat the rush on services as the NEG deadline nears.
