Heatlhcare Sector Strategy Roll Out

By Ken Datzman, Brevard Business News

…“The sector–strategy approach is our big initiative at CareerSource Brevard,” said Murphy. “We have in place the Manufacturing Sector Strategy, we are rolling out our Healthcare Sector Strategy, and will be following that up with our Information Technology Sector Strategy. These three strategies cut across all businesses.”

CareerSource Brevard held its inaugural Healthcare Sector Strategy community gathering Dec. 14. The first Brevard Healthcare Workforce Consortium meeting was held at the Bill Posey Conference Center in Viera.

More than 50 businesses and organizations attended the event, including representatives from Health First Inc., Wuesthoff Health System, Parrish Medical Center, Kindred Hospital, Brevard Family Partnership, HealthSouth Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital, Coastal Health, Hospice of St. Francis, and Circles of Care.

“The health–care industry in Brevard County is poised for exponential growth,” said Murphy. “Succeeding in this growth requires the availability of a skilled work force. I am confident the combined efforts of our health care, education, and economic partners will grow the talent Brevard’s health–care industry needs.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that 25 of the 50 fastest–growing occupations in Brevard County between now and 2023 will be in the health–care industry.

CareerSource Brevard’s goal is to partner with the health–care community to strengthen the existing talent pipeline, and maintain new solutions to ensure that talent is trained in health–care–related competencies needed by area employers. This, in turn, should provide employment opportunities with “sustainable wages” and “career ladders” for local workers and their families.

“Having a robust, quality health–care system within Brevard County is vital for attracting new businesses to the local area, as well as for retaining local companies, as access to quality care is a major factor in business location,” said Carol Macrander, CareerSource Brevard’s
Healthcare Sector strategist.
