Brevard Workforce Aerospace Transition Program Offering Workshops During August 2011

ROCKLEDGE, Florida – The Brevard Workforce Aerospace Workforce Transition (AWT) Program will hold the following workshops in August 2011 to assist Brevard County aerospace workers.  There is no cost to attend. These workshops are designed specifically for aerospace workers who have been or will be affected by the Space program realignment. Employees of NASA contractors and subcontractors please note that per NASA Procurement, attendance at these workshops shall be done on personal time and shall not be charged to work hours or administrative leave hours. Participation in any workshops held at Kennedy Space Center requires a current access badge. Participation requires registration at two separate websites, www.employflorida.com and www.launchnewcareers.com.  If an individual workshop requires a reservation, this is done online at www.launchnewcareers.com.

 

  • AWT Training and Scholarship Orientation
    Date: Mondays, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Time: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Where: Brevard Workforce Titusville, 3880 S. Washington Avenue, Suite 214 (Washington Plaza)

Description: Customers will learn about AWT Program requirements for AWT Scholarships for education and training. The process for obtaining scholarships will be explained. No registration required. First come, first served. Maximum class size: 15

  • Career Transition Workshop

Date: Mondays, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Where: Brevard Workforce Rockledge, 295 Barnes Boulevard

Description:  Finding yourself unemployed is one of the most frightening situations you can find yourself in.  It can leave you paralyzed as to what to do next.  This workshop helps you understand the feelings you are experiencing and offers some tips & techniques to help you move towards a new career.  In this workshop, you will learn techniques for stress management; how to take stock of your finances to ride out the storm; and tips on using your community resources in your job search campaign. Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

 

  • Exploring Federal Employment Opportunities: Part 1

Date: Wednesday, August 10

Time: 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Where: Brevard Workforce Rockledge, 295 Barnes Boulevard

Description: Workshop participants will learn how to research for federal positions, how to determine if they are qualified to apply for an announcement, how to apply for positions and how the application process works. Taught by NASA HR. Must pre-register to attend. Maximum class size: 45

 

  • Exploring Federal Employment Opportunities: Part 1

Date: Wednesday, August 17

Time: 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Where: Brevard Workforce Rockledge, 295 Barnes Boulevard

Description: Participants must attend Part 1 prior to attending Part 2 and have a current resume posted at www.usajobs.gov. Participants will have the opportunity to have their federal resume reviewed by NASA Human Resources personnel. Participants must pre-register to attend. Maximum class size: 25

Description:  Customers will learn how to navigate the Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) web site, the importance of having “BACKGROUND” information in the system to be selected for job openings, how to get over 400 job skills in your profile, and have the system complete a resume for YOU!  Please bring a draft resume, along with your user name and password to EFM.  Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

Where: KSC Headquarters, Room 1471

Description:  Learn how to match your experience to the job and how to develop answers to common questions.  Participants must have a user account at www.employflorida.com and be badged for Kennedy Space Center access.  Taught by NASA Human Resources.  Class size, maximum 40.

Description:  Customers will learn about the On the Job Training (OJT) program where employers WANT AEROSPACE WORKERS and the requirements to participate for possible selection by an employer.  This is a two (2) day workshop.   Please bring your completed resume for review.  You will be shown the proper method of registering on www.employflorida.com, how to write a VALUE-BASED resume to a specific job opening, and how to STAND OUT in the interview process!   • On the Job Training (OJT) Workshop (Part 2)

Date: Tuesday, August 23

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Where: Brevard Workforce Rockledge, 295 Barnes Boulevard

Description: During the 2nd part of the OJT workshop, customers will break into groups to work one-on-one with staff members on their registration on www.employflorida.com, writing an outline for a VALUE-BASED resume, and practice with a VIRTUAL interviewing system! This class is recommended to for success within the OJT Program. You must be registered on www.employflorida.com and www.launchnewcareers.com.  Registration on www.launchnewcareers.com is required to attend.  Class size, maximum 15.

Pre-registration is required. Maximum class size-16.
