Employment Workshops During October 2011

 

ROCKLEDGE, Florida – Brevard Workforce in Palm Bay, located at Country Club Plaza, 5275 Babcock St. N.E., Suite 8B, will hold employment workshops in October 2011 to assist Brevard County job seekers. Participants must be at least 17 years of age or older, and should be registered with Employ Florida (www.employflorida.com). Each of the workshops was designed to target specific employment needs and offer solutions to job seekers looking for assistance. Please note that participants must arrive on time as no admittance will be allowed once the session begins. There is no cost to attend the workshops.   • AARP

Days:  Fridays (October 7, 14, 21, 28)

Times:  9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Description: This workshop is a skills improvement course. It will provide job seekers with an opportunity to enhance existing job skills, identify job choices based on interests, and provide assistance matching skills and experience. Must be pre-registered.

 

  • Adult Education and GED Preparation:

Days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

Times: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Description: This workshop will provide job seekers with an opportunity to obtain classroom instruction on subjects needed to prepare for the General Education Diploma (GED) Examination. GED classes have a fee of 30.00 with proof of residency and 120.00 without proof of residency. Customers need to go to Palm Bay High Adult/Community Education to register and show proof of residency first.

 

  • Career Transition

Days:  Monday (October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31)

Times: Times: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Description: Finding yourself unemployed is one of the most frightening situations you can find yourself in.  It can leave you paralyzed as to what to do next.  This workshop helps you understand the feelings you are experiencing and offers some tips and techniques to help you move towards a new career.  In this workshop you will learn techniques for stress management; how to take stock of your finances to ride out the storm; and tips on using your community resources to assist in your job search campaign. Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

 

 

  • Career Development and Training Workshop

Days:  Thursdays (October 6, 13, 20, 27)

Times:  9:30  – 11:00 a.m.

Description: This workshop provides job seekers with information on how to access additional employment and educational opportunities. Must be pre-registered.

 

  • Computers 101

Days:  Fridays (October 7, 14, 21, 28)

Times:  8:00  – 9:00 a.m.

Description: This class is designed to help people who have never used a computer before. We will concentrate on: computer basics, how to use the mouse, how to use the keyboard, how to use your skills to search for employment and how to navigate through our website: www.employflorida.com

 

  • English as a Second Language

Days:  Mondays & Wednesdays

Times: 1:00 – 4:30 p.m.

  • Getting the Most Out of EFM

Days:  Tuesdays (October 4, 11, 18, 25)

Times: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Description: Customers will learn how to navigate the Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) website, the importance of having “background” information in the system to be selected for job openings, how to get over 400 job skills in your profile, how to set up a virtual recruiter and have the system complete a resume for YOU! Please bring a draft resume, along with your username and password to EFM. Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

 

  • Initial Claims and Skills Assessment Session

Days:  (October 7, 14, 21, 28)

Times: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Description: Class size, maximum 15.

 

 

  • Next Gen Orientation

Days:  Mondays (October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31)

Times: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Description: Assists teens and young adults between the ages of 16-21 who are serious about taking the next step(s) needed to reach their skills training, employment and future career goals. This orientation is the second step in the program and application process. Admission to this orientation is by staff referral only. Pre-registration is required.

 

  • Preparing for the Interview

Days:  Thursdays (October 6, 13, 20, 27)

Times: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Description: Interviewing techniques have changed over the last several years. Don’t miss out on your chance to sharpen your skills. Be prepared to handle that interview and land the career you want! This workshop covers various interviewing styles, the 10 toughest questions asked, how to use a virtual interviewing program and how to handle interviewing stress.   • Resume Writing – Part 1

Days:  Wednesdays (October 5, 12, 19, 26)

Times: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Description: Workshop participants will learn how to: evaluate their skills in order to provide career direction, critique and develop a value-based resume that speaks to the job description and the employer, utilize Optimal Resume and other resume templates for resume development and provide portfolios complete with Professional References and Case Studies. Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

 

  • Resume Writing – Part 2

Days:  Fridays (October 7, 14, 21, 28)

Times: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Description: Resume Writing Part 2 is set to work with Staff members to review your current resume and develop a value-based resume to better market your skills to the employers to land that interview. Must be registered on www.employflorida.com .Pre-registration is required. Class size, maximum 15.

 

  • Veteran Services

Days:  Fridays, October 7 & 21

Times: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Description: This workshop will provide an overview of services providing information and resources to veterans seeking employment. Veterans must have served in the military for at least 181 active duty days and have other than a dishonorable discharge. Having your DD-214 is helpful.
