Job security and advancement opportunities exist in healthcare careers!

Now is a great time to start your healthcare career! Why? Employment projections from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity indicate Brevard County healthcare industry employment for 2017-2025 will increase in Hospitals by 6.6%, Nursing and Residential Care Facilities by 21.3%, and Ambulatory Health Care Services by 19.3%. This explosive industry growth, coupled with lower unemployment rates, supports job security — after all, there’s more job openings than people to fill them.  Plus, advancement opportunities are available to those who continue their education gaining new skills and credentials to fill the higher level vacancies.

Ever heard of a career ladder or a career pathway? It’s a term, used to describe how a career progresses from entry level to the highest level position. For example, you can begin your nursing career at $10.75/hr as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) after completing a six week training program. While employed as a CNA, you could also attend school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  The Practical Nursing program takes approximately one year to complete, but once employed as a LPN, your earnings will jump to $17.09 per hour or more. This nursing career “ladder” or “pathway”, continues to climb with added education, experience and specialization, resulting in even higher earnings. In fact, graduate Registered Nurse (RN) salaries in Brevard County, start at $23.80 per hour!
