United Way Volunteers Help CareerSource Brevard Customers Save in 2015

BREVARD, FL-Through a partnership with CareerSource Brevard, the area authority on workforce development, United Way of Brevard, operated free tax sites to assist our community’s low-to moderate-income families, individuals and seniors at both the Rockledge and Palm Bay Career Centers.

According to Gerri Ludwig, United Way’s Community Impact Manager, “United Way volunteers prepared 2,711 tax returns for low-to-moderate income workers saving them the cost of tax preparation and helping them claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible.  These efforts had community-wide impact of $3.1M (including EITC and dollars saved in tax prep fees).”

At the Rockledge and Palm Bay Career Centers, United Way I.R.S. certified volunteers prepared a total of 747 tax returns, saving approximately $186,750 in tax preparation fees; which means on average each taxpayer saved approximately $250 in preparation fees.

“CareerSource Brevard’s convenient locations as well as high traffic made it the ideal setting for our free tax preparation program.  The CareerSource Brevard staff’s customer service was outstanding and we are very pleased with our partnership,” said Ludwig.

“We were happy to once again be able to provide a location for United Way to provide free tax preparation services for our community,” said Lisa Rice, President of CareerSource Brevard.  “This help, provided to the more than 740 people that came into our centers, ultimately results in time and money savings for each family, which can be a huge relief for our customers.”

CareerSource Brevard plans to continue working with United Way of Brevard to host the free tax sites ensuring these money saving services are available to the citizens of Brevard.  Please check the United Way website for time and location updates in 2016:  http://www.uwbrevard.org/.
