Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) was awarded a $19.5 million contract from the U.S. Navy on Sept. 21, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Defense. Lockheed Martin’s rotary and mission systems division will provide engineering and technical services for the integration of combat systems for submarines.
While the majority of the work will take place in Manassas, Va., other parts will happen in five other locations in the U.S., including Cape Canaveral where Lockheed Martin has more than 1,000 workers for its fleet ballistic missile program. The contract has a September 2018 completion date.
Lockheed Martin has more than 700 job openings in Orlando and nearly 50 in Cape Canaveral according to its career website. Most positions call for software engineers, developers and cyber security personnel — jobs that may pay an average annual salary of $75,000.
Lockheed Martin was also awarded a $10.6 million contract with the U.S. Army on Sept. 19 to design, build and integrate sensor technology. All of the work will be performed in Orlando where Lockheed Martin has more than 7,000 employees — 4,000-plus at its missiles and fire control facility in west Orlando and nearly 3,500 at its rotary and mission system center in east Orlando. The contract has a Oct. 20, 2020, completion date.
