The Space Coast Satellite Industy is Growing

Brevard County — is playing a big role in the future of the satellite industry in two big ways:

  1. Arlington, Va.-based satellite company OneWeb LLC in March expects to debut its $85 million, 100,000 square-foot manufacturing plant inSpace Florida’s Exploration Park. Space Florida is the state’s economic development agency for the aerospace industry.
  2. The Space Coast is the busiest place for commercial and government rocket launches that carry satellites to space

OneWeb founder Greg Wyler plans to launch 900 satellites to space to bridge the digital divide by giving billions of people around the world internet service that have never had it. And those satellites will be built on the Space Coast, with 250 workers expected to be hired at the plant.

SpaceX announced plans to send 12,000 satellites to space, using its own rockets. And it plans to launch more frequently from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A.
